Dusty & Cadbury

Ashlee Byrnes received her first live rabbit when she turned eight years old. Prior to this all of her rabbit companions were stuffed and she had built up a collection of over one hundred of them!

Ashlee's family adopted Dusty, a white netherland dwarf from us. Initially, Dusty was a shy little girl but soon came out of her shell as she explored her new home. After awhile, Ashlee's family adopted another bunny from us named Cadbury. He and Dusty could have been twins! This pair became inseparable and spent hours snuggling and grooming. Of course they were spayed and neutered.

Dusty originally came from a animal control facility with an unknown background and Cadbury had been a spokesbunny for a humane education program for an animal shelter. We are so happy that these two could find one another and we are so grateful to Ashlee, Jenni and Dave Byrnes for providing Dusty and Cadbury such a perfect home!

Crumpet and Mr. Wellington

Bruce Joanie & Crumpet

Joanie and Bryce were looking for a companion for their house rabbit, Mr. Wellington, a mini lop. They brought him here to have a date and see how things would go. We introduced Mr. Wellington to a sweet lop who had come to us from a shelter. The two hit it off right away. But it doesn't always go so smoothly and sometimes there are bunnies that just don't want to have anything to do with one another!

We are so grateful to Joanie and Bryce for providing such a wonderful home for Crumpet and Mr. Wellington, both of whom are spayed and neutered of course!

Tommy

Mary Costello, one of our board members, met Tommy, an English Lop at our first Petfest. It was love at first sight! Tommy is a very spoiled house rabbit who shares his home with five other house rabbits. All of them are spayed and neutered, of course!

Tommy came to us from an animal control facility with an unknown history. His future is very bright now! We are so grateful to Mary for giving Tommy such a loving home!

Flipper and Chipper

Flipper and Chipper are siblings who were at the animal shelter. Flipper had a deformity with his right hind leg. We took the brothers in so that we could ensure they would remain together and be placed in just the right home.

Tracy Martin, one of our board members and founder of www.rabbitron.com, adopted the pair of brothers. She had WSU perform surgery on Flipper's leg to make it more manageable for him to get around and scratch his ear.

Flipper and Chipper are the cutest pair and Flipper gets around just fine! We are so grateful to Tracy for adopting this pair and giving them such a wonderful home!

Cookie and Charlie

Molly is visiting her newly adopted bunnies, Cookie and Charlie, prior to her departure to Ethiopia where she will be working for six weeks. Molly met Cookie and Charlie and fell in love with these brothers. When Molly returns home she will be taking the boys to their new home in Moscow, Idaho where they will share a new condominium with their new Mom. Molly is a painter and we are guessing that Cookie and Charlie may be just the perfect models!

Rylan

Rylan shares his home with Miranda and his five bunny friends. Rylan was Miranda's first house bunny only to be followed by several other sweet rabbits who needed the perfect home!

Victoria and Jasper

Meet Victoria! Isn't she something. Bob adopted Jasper from us recently and when we learned that Victoria needed a good home we introduced her to Jasper. It really was love at first sight.  Finding homes like Bob's is so rewarding for everyone.

Trenton and Melissa

This is a story about a couple who went the extra mile to keep their family together.Trenton and Melissa were going to rehome their rabbits, Rocky and Cooper, whenthey relocated to New Jersey for their military assignment. They drove the bunniesto us and were torn up over giving them up. It was a very sad situation. To our surprise we received this heartwarming and reaffirming email that evening:
Hi, we brought you two rabbits yesterday. We were so broken hearted that we didn't have our boys with us, we couldn't bear it. We are extremely sorry, and we feel horrible, but we can't live without our boys. We will do everything we can to keep them, even if it changes our living situation in NJ. If you could contact us with a day and time to get them, we would appreciate it. Once again we are extremely sorry. Thank you. Trenton & Melissa

Dave and Uma

Dave and Uma (formerly known as Albrecht and Elle) are in their new home with Sarah and loving it. Dave, as he's now known, has quickly developed high expectations of us. He presents himself for a head rub right away now. The man likes his greens, especially cilantro, parsley, and dandelion flowers. Fortunately for him, we have a lot of those available to give him since we haven't ever sprayed anything on our yard. Elle is also doing great. She darts into her house (we created a Dave-sized house for them by putting two large cardboard boxes together with cut-outs) when we come into to the room, but she's perfectly happy to have Sarah reach in and give her a head rub. She's really cute to watch and pretty particular about her home decor. If we put something in their house, like a fresh bunch of hay or an old t-shirt for them to lounge on, she pushes it around until it's just where she wants it (which often is out of the house). We're still working on a new name for her. We've been through a few names and none of them seems to fit her quite right. We're currently trying out Uma, since she is a very pretty blonde and has that star quality. I think this one might stick. Uma, formerly Elle, was the featured bunny on the billboards for the anti-easter rabbit campaign 2009.

Making a commitment and taking it seriously: An unlikely love story by Pat Dennison

MY FAMILY OF BUNNIES BEGAN WITH TWINKLE TOES (TWINKIE), WHO WAS A DUTCH, AND JUST THE SWEETEST GIRL IN THE WORLD. I HAD ALWAYS ONLY HAD 1 BUNNY AT A TIME, BUT AFTER LEAVING TWINKIE WITH FRIEND WHILE I WENT AWAY, I REALIZED THAT I DIDN'T EVER WANT HER ALONE LIKE THAT. SO I FOUND "DOT", AND THEY BECAME FAST FRIENDS. SADLY DOT DIED AFTER ONLY A COUPLE VERY HAPPY MONTHS WITH US. BECAUSE THEY HAD PAIR-BONDED, TWINKIE IMMEDIATELY QUIT EATING AND WENT TO HIDE IN A CORNER. SO I CALLED RIVER'S WISH, AND THAT DAY PETER DELIVERED JASMINE, A BEAUTIFUL DAPPLED LOP. AFTER JUST A FEW SKIRMISHES, THEY WERE GREAT FRIENDS, AND ALL WAS GOOD. THEN WE WORKED PET FEST, AND MY GRANDSON ZACHARY, FELL IN LOVE WITH MR C., A BIG DARK-GRAY LOP THAT MAKES ME THINK OF A BIG B-52 AIRPLANE. ZACH WANTED TO GET MR C. BUT I SAID NO, AS MY HUSBAND ALREADY HAS AN UNFAIR LOAD OF WORK WITH ALL MY PROBLEMS. THEN ZACH SAID, WITH A TWINKLE IN HIS EYE, "WHAT IF IT WAS MY BIRTHDAY PRESENT?" NOW, I KNEW FULL WELL THAT WHILE HE MIGHT BE ZACH'S BUNNY THAT MR C. WOULD LIVE WITH ME AND I WOULD BE THE ONE TO CARE FOR HIM., BUT WHO CAN SAY NO TO SUCH A GREAT KID? SO MR C. CAME TO STAY. AND ALL WOULD HAVE BEEN WELL, EXCEPT THAT WHILE MY TWINKIE WAS THE WELCOME WAGON, SWEET JASMINE WAS A NIGHTMARE OF TERRITORIAL PROTECTION. SHE WENT AFTER MR C LIKE A WILDCAT, AND DESPITE ALL MY BONDING SESSIONS WITH THE 3 RABBITS, MY 3 GRANDKIDS & ME IN THE BATHROOM, JASMINE JUST WANTED HIM GONE. SO AFTER A FEW AWFUL WEEKS, I BOUGHT A NEW PLAYPEN, WHERE JAZZY COULD SEE HIM BUT NOT GET TO HIM. THEN WE STARTED ALL OVER, AND EVENTUALLY JASMINE CAME TO ACCEPT THIS GENTLE GIANT (ALTHOUGH IN A LESSER STATURE TO HERSELF. TWINKIE, JASMINE AND MR C. BECAME A FAMILY, WITH JAZZY REMINDING MR C. OF HIS LOWER STATUS AS SHE SAW NECESSARY. THEN IN JANUARY 2009, I LOST MY SWEET TWINKIE. THE BUNS AND I FELT LOST WITHOUT HER DEAR FACE. BUT, MIRACLE OF MIRACLES, AFTER WE SPENT TIME WITH TWINKIE AFTER SHE DIED, JASMINE ACCEPTED MR C. AS HER PAIR BOND. SO IT SEEMS MR C. WAS MEANT TO BE HERE, AND IT WAS MEANT THAT WE NOT GIVE UP ON HIM. BY THIS TIME I HAD BEEN TOLD THAT I WAS VIOLENTLY ALLERGIC NOT TO RABBITS, BUT TO EVERYTHING THEY EAT. MANY PEOPLE TOLD ME TO GET RID OF MY BUNS BUT I FELT I HAD TAKEN ON ANIMALS THAT HAD BEEN RESCUED AND I COULDN'T JUST WALK AWAY- NOR DID I WANT TO. SO FOR THE LAST 1-1/2 YRS IT'S BEEN ALLERGY SHOTS, ADVAIR, SINGULAIR, INHALERS ANS ZYRTEC. AND WE CHANGED THE WAY I FEED THEM. I CHANGED TO THE (MORE EXPENSIVE) BUYING BAGS @ THE PETFOOD STORE OR ONLINE, TO HOLD DOWN ALL THE AIRBORNE ALLERGENS. I AM DISABLED WITH MANY COMPLEX,PAINFUL, LIMITING ILLNESSES AND CONDITIONS. A NEW ONE CAME UP IN 2009. I GOT HIDEOUS PAIN IN MY JOINTS, THE WORST ION MY KNEES AND HANDS. SO I COULD NO LONGER GET DOWN ON THE FLOOR BY THEIR CAGE TO CARE FOR THEM OR PET THEM I HAD DEVELOPED SYMMETRICAL PSORIATIC ARTHRITIS, VERY SIMILAR TO RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS. ONCE AGAIN, FOLKS SAID, YOU'LL JUST HAVE TO GET RID OF THE BUNS. BUT I HAD MAKE A COMMITMENT TO THEM. SO MY HUSBAND AND I WORKED OUT A RAISED CAGE AND RAMP (WHICH HE BUILT) TO MAKE IT POSSIBLE FOR ME TO GIVE THEM THEIR GOOD-NIGHT CUDDLES IF I SIT IN A CHAIR. THIS WAY, WE BOTH GET THE BEST OF WHAT WE NEED FROM ONE ANOTHER, AND THEY HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY HOME. AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT BY LIVING MY COMMITMENT TO THEM, WITH ALL THAT ENTAILS, I HAVE HAD MORE JOY THAN I EVER COULD HAVE IMAGINED. THANKS, RIVER'SWISH!

Pewter and Prue
Pewter
Meet Pewter Rabbit who lives with Prue, Mark, Max and Ben.  Prue is a volunteer at the sanctuary who was drawn to Pewter from the time she met him.  Pewter had been left in a cage with no information, at the door of a local veterinary clinic.  All we knew about Pewter was that he was angry and untrusting of people.  Prue wanted to help this sad little rabbit and took him into her home. Through Prue's gentle and consistent love and attention, Pewter has come to blossom in her care.  Pewter is a well loved house rabbit who receives supervised visits to the outdoors.  Thanks Prue and family, for giving Pewter a new life.

Sadie and Stacy
Sadie
Sadie lives with Stacy and her family.  Sadie came from an out of control situation where rabbits were breeding like rabbits.  Now Sadie is spayed, so she will never contribute to the problem of overpopulation and she will maintain her good health.  Thanks Stacy, for giving Sadie a happy family.
